Rotterdam, January 2011

Dear *|FNAME|*,

I thought this month I would give you a little peek into my life and role with Christian Associates (CA)

CA logoLast weekend I got to visit CA’s church planting projects in Brussels and Leuven. As the Area-director for CA in the Netherlands and Belgium I try to connect with our project leaders on a regular basis, but — due also to the economic crisis — most of that happens through email and Skype.

So travelling there is a privilege. The work in these locations is developing very well and it was a real pleasure for me to meet the new leaders that are emerging in both projects.

Brussels

In Brussels I got to celebrate with Carlton and Shannon Deal, our project leaders there. The Deals recently completed their 6-year commitment to CA there and went back to their sending churches in the US to report on all that had happened. Then they laid out a plan for the next six years! Such a pleasure to work with committed leaders like that!

The Well (that’s the name of the church plant in Brussels) is a very interesting project. The church meets in four different groups (‘expressions’) in public places every Sunday. Once a month they meet al together in a joint celebration. I got to speak to the Expression leaders. I think it was encouraging to them to hear that they are part of a bigger whole — that all over Europe churches like them are being established (CA currently has 37 projects in Europe).

Leuven

Then I went to Leuven, a university-city in Belgium. Here CA’s project is called ‘City Life’ and it is led by the Belgian-American couple Horace and Tina Henriot. They are a house on fire! Every time I am there I feel I need to hold on to my seat because there is so much happening!

This time, for instance, I found out they have just commissioned a couple out of their midst to plant a church in a village 15 minutes outside Leuven. I had no idea! I got to meet the guy and had a great conversation with him.

That’s what we are talking about: it’s movement! Churches planting new churches. Since my trip to Belgium I have already had more conversations with other potential church planters too.

We appreciate you love, prayers and financial support. Please do continue praying for us; there are times we feel your prayers! The work we do can count on spiritual resistance — and your prayers make a difference.

On the family-side of things, we would appreciate your prayers for Joshua. We are supposed to have a meeting with a pedagogical expert this January, but we are on the waiting list. Please pray this meeting could take place?

Next month I am going to tell you a little bit about the team I get to lead and serve on: the European Advancement Team.

Till then - blessings and a strong sense of God’s presence,

Rogier and Sophie signatures
